F1 Launch Season 2024: Mclaren launch the MCL38
Even though Mclaren launched their livery last month, they have officially launched their 2024 challenger.
While no technical specs have been given, a shakedown is to come later on Wednesday. This will be the first car fully designed under the control of team principal Andrea Stella and the first one fully designed in their new wind tunnel. This should give McLaren the final piece of the puzzle: they need to beat Red Bull to regular race wins.
The car should also take some benefit from major signings Rob Marshall (ex-Red Bull) and David Sanchez (ex-Ferrari), who started work at the team’s Woking base on January 1st.
Driver-wise, Lando Norris will head into the first season of his new long-term contract that he signed over the winter, which was said to be signed in order to protect him from being poached by Mercedes as a replacement for Lewis Hamilton, who is off to Ferrari next year.
Pairing Lando is Oscar Piastri, who also last year received a long-term contract after his stunning debut campaign, which included a sprint race win in Qatar.
This now leaves only Mercedes and Red Bull to launch their cars, with Williams also yet to show off their real cars and not just their chassis.
