Craig Linsel double helps Sunderland West End see off Boldon CA

Boldon CA 1-2 Sunderland West End

Sunderland West End made it four wins in a row on Friday night as they defeated Bolden CA 1-2.

Craig Linsel opened the scoring for West End in the 22nd minute before Boldon equalised through Scott Purvis just after half time in the 50th minute. Linsel would get his second and what turned out to be the winner shortly after in the 56th minute.

Coming into the game West End sat 12th in the table 13 points of playoffs meaning they needed a win to continue climbing up the table.

The first ten minutes were back and forth with both teams having big chances to open the scoring before the referee made a controversial decision to only give a yellow card to West End defender Jordan Reed when it was argued that he denied a clear goal scoring opportunity.

Linsel then opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after a low driven cross into the box found West End’s number nine who neatly buried the chance.

Just after half-time in the 50th minute Purvis equalised for the hosts despite only being on the pitch for four minutes. A cross was cushioned down for him to give hope that the home side could get something from the game.

Linsel then became the hero for West End as he would grab his second of the night after calmly tucking away a one-on-one chance against the home side’s goalkeeper.

Sunderland West End see themselves move up to 11th in the table and 10 points off the playoffs but with extra games played to the teams above them. Their next time out will be against Redcar Town who currently sit 14th in the table.
