Matty Betham reacts to latest Whitley Warriors disappointment

Whitley Warriors’ Matty Betham says his side need to continue ‘working hard’ after their latest defeat in the NIHL North Division One as they lost 3-1 against Solihull Barons.

The Warriors lost at home against the Barons after a double from Daniel Mulcahy and a goal from Bailey Challans despite Adam Wood getting on the score sheet for the home side.

The Warriors came into the game after playing just the day before in Leeds whilst their opponents had over a week to prepare.

“We’ve had lads injured,” Betham said before adding: “Today we were short benched, a few lads were ill and that can really take a toll, especially having a double-header each weekend.”

The forward seemed confident that the Warriors can get through the rough patch of form. “I think we just need to keep up the run of training and make sure we’re working hard. I think that the key thing was to put the pressure on them and we really, really did,” he said.

Despite the Barons giving away seven power plays, Whitley weren’t able to take advantage and only scored once. Betham said:”We’re gonna be in training and working on them (power plays) every week,”
