Seaham Red Star’s season so far
It has been a tough start for Seaham Red Star so far this season and they face an uphill battle to rise out of the relegation zone.
Red Star have had a poor season so far with three wins from 22 games. 16 losses to date has them sitting 21st in the EBAC Northern Football League Division One, a league they have been in since their promotion in 2015. At the moment nothing is working for Red Star as a combination of poor defensive performances and non-existent game management has led them to where they are.
They started off their season with two losses but bounced back quickly with back-to-back wins. They then went on a run consisting of just one win out in seven games which began to see their hopes of a positive campaign dwindle.
The poor form continued through September with the club going winless and one win in the month of October created more worry for the Red Star fans.
Mark Collingwood, the Seaham Red Star manager, is in his second spell at the club after having a successful first spell taking them from a team at the brink of relegation into the top six.
He hasn’t been able to recreate the success from his 2014-17 stint when he won the second division in 2016. For now the club have continued to back him and it will be interesting to see how this one develops if Red Star’s form doesn’t look up anytime soon.
One bright spark for Red Star this season is Lewis Rutherford with 6 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions. He’s their top scorer currently and at the moment it seems any hopes of a turnaround in fortunes will have Rutherford at the forefront of it.
