Seaham Red Star 1-2 West Allotment Celtic

Seaham Red Star fell short last Friday and pressure is building on Mark Collingwood to turn around their fortunes.

Allotment took the lead at the end of half via Alfie Livermore. Matty Weirs levelled for Seaham Red Star four minutes into the second period, but Allotment struck five minutes later to win the game with Rob Ridely finding the net.

Collingwood’s side have won just one of their last nine and despite their future being in doubt just a few weeks ago, West Allotment have now won three on the bounce.

It was a strong first half for West Allotment with plenty of chances, but they had to wait until just before half time to find a breakthrough. The visitors broke down the left side and a cut-back found Livermore who finished nicely to open the scoring.

The second half started in the same fashion. Allotment continued to test the keeper and pushed for another goal, but a counter from Seaham saw Weirs threaded through and he made no mistake in front of goal.

Red Star may have pulled it back, but Allotment’s second felt inevitable. Ridely got the ball at the edge of the area and curled it round Shaun Newbrook in superb style to give his side a fully-deserved advantage.

The game died out in the closing stages and Red Star failed to find a way back into the game.

Up next for Seaham Red Star is a quarter final clash in the Durham Challenge Cup against FC Hartlepool tomorrow night.
