Preview: Premier League Darts night 8 Newcastle

This Thursday the Premier League darts heads to Newcastle, the home of Chris Dobey, for night eight of the campaign.

Dobey is back on home soil in the Premier League for the first time since 2023 and will be hoping to pick up some vital points with the new season well under way.

Heading into night eight there have only been three nightly winners, with Luke Littler winning three nights and Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price with two nightly wins to their name.

Reigning Champion Littler won his third night last time out in Cardiff, hitting a nine darter in the final against Michael van Gerwen. The Nuke’s perfect leg was also the first televised nine darter ending with double 15.

Littler’s nine darter is the third of the tournament so far, with Luke Humphries and Rob Cross both landing perfect legs in Brighton to make it a record equalling three in a single Premier League campaign with ten weeks of action left to unfold.

Littler faces Stephen Bunting in a top vs bottom fixture on Thursday evening. The Bullet is still without a win on his return to the Premier League and will be desperate to pick up some points on Tyneside.

Price will have a repeat of his quarter final in Cardiff against Rob Cross. The Iceman came from 5-2 down to a dart away from winning the match, but after missing double 18, Cross made no mistake taking out the big fish to see off the Welshman.

Local hero Dobey will take on the world number one Humphries. Cool Hand Luke has failed to pick up any points since his night four win in Exeter and will be looking to end this run of form.

The last quarter final sees Seven-time Premier League winner van Gerwen take on Nathan Aspinall a repeat of last year’s final in Newcastle. The Dutch star has won six out of his seven quarter final matches, only losing to Cross.

The Asp was victorious in Gottingen over the weekend winning his first ever European Tour beating North East star Ryan Joyce 8-4 in the final.

Last year at Newcastle it was van Gerwen who went on to win the night, beating Price, Littler and Aspinall.

The action takes place from 7pm at the Utilita Arena.
