Anthony Gordon: a return to the starting eleven?

The race for the Champions League is heating up, as Newcastle prepare to face closely-matched Chelsea, who currently sit a position below the Magpies in the table.

Gordon will be looking to regain his position in the starting eleven, for the first since February, and Newcastle will want their number 10 to be back at his best going into the final run in for the Champions League spots.

Harvey Barnes is currently in top form, making him hard to replace, which begs the question, is it time for Jacob Murphy to make way for Gordon?

Murphy has had a season to remember for the Magpies, asserting his place in the starting eleven for Eddie Howe this season.

The Englishman has eight goals and 11 assists in 32 appearances and has just been awarded PFA’s Premier League Fans’ Player of the Month award for April.

This will make it a tough call for the manager, however he has admitted that Gordon “adds a different dimension to our game, directness and running” which could prove the difference for Newcastle.

Prior to picking up his suspension and his injury during international duty, Gordon was contributing significantly towards Newcastle’s results, with nine goals and seven assists.

The debate of the winger’s inclusion has been on the mind of Newcastle fans across social media since his impressive cameo against Brighton last weekend.

Could Gordon prove the difference against Chelsea and be Newcastle’s catalyst to qualify for the Champions League next season?
