Match Report: Prudhoe YC Seniors 2-1 AFC Newbiggin
Prudhoe YC Seniors battled to a 2-1 victory against AFC Newbiggin on Non-League Day at Essity Park to climb out of the Ebac Northern League Division Two relegation zone.

Goals from Jay Plunkett and Fin Baty shortly after the break gave the Seniors a two-goal advantage, before Newbiggin halved the deficit midway into the second period through Cameron Elliott.
Prudhoe came into the clash off the back of a 2-2 draw at home to play-off hopefuls FC Hartlepool, while the visitors hoped to bounce back from a 6-1 loss against high-flying Redcar Town.
Newbiggin started brightly and almost took the lead in the opening minutes, with Matthew Nelson cutting inside from the right but steering his effort narrowly wide.
At the quarter-hour mark, Plunkett rescued the hosts from an early setback with a last-ditch clearance on the goal-line, stopping a low Newbiggin strike headed for the bottom-left corner.
But Prudhoe threatened with a chance of their own five minutes later, from Baty’s inswinging delivery – Plunkett’s close-range header was saved instinctively by Ollie Huddleston.
And the Seniors found their opener in similar fashion just a few minutes into the second half. The duo combined once more, as Baty’s teasing corner was met by Plunkett, who powerfully arrowed his header home into the bottom-right corner.
Prudhoe continued their pressure and, after Christ Zoma was brought down in the box following a neat piece of skill, were awarded a penalty in the 54th minute. Baty coolly slotted home into the bottom-right corner from the spot, sending Huddleston the wrong way.
The hosts almost had a third just past the hour mark – Michael Wright burst into the Newbiggin box but his lobbed attempt drifted wide.
However, the visitors were given a golden opportunity to pull one back when Liam Dalton was controversially penalised for a last-ditch challenge in the box. Elliott made no mistake with the resulting penalty-kick, placing home past Sam Wilson on 67 minutes.
A Newbiggin header from close-range flashed just wide not long after, but Prudhoe remained resolute in the closing stages to claim a hard-fought three points.
