Hebburn Town 3-0 Sunderland RCA

Spence 75

Richardson 82

Armstrong 87

Three second half goals meant that Hebburn Town beat 10-man Sunderland RCA reasonably convincingly to make the third round of the FA Vase on Saturday at the Energy Check Sports Ground.

Robbie Spence put the Hornets in front in the 75th minute and he was backed up by further goals from Michael Richardson and Graeme Armstrong.

It was a fairly even start to the game but Hebburn came closest in the opening 10 minutes – Jack Robson’s effort was blocked on the line following a lobbed through ball from Richardson.

RCA did hit back four minutes later however as Nathan O’Neill’s close range effort went just over.

Chances were few and far between for the rest of the half, but just before half time the visitors went down to 10 men when ‘keeper Robert Dean was sent off for bringing down Armstrong outside the box.

Hebburn came out of the blocks in the second half firing and in the first minute Armstrong’s volley was just pushed wide by the substitute goalkeeper.

Kevin Bolam’s side thought they had the lead two minutes later when Richardson put away the rebound after Armstrong’s shot was saved but it was ruled out offside.

10 minutes later, Armstrong threatened again but his effort was saved by the legs of the ‘keeper.

Seven minutes later, the Hornets doubled their lead when substitute Olly Martin played an excellent ball through the RCA defence and Richardson buried the ball in the bottom-right corner.

In the 87th minute, Armstrong put the game to bed as he slid the ball home on the end of Ben Dibb-Fuller’s cross.
