Becky Langley looks ahead to returning to St James Park for semi-final clash
The Newcastle United women’s team are back playing at St James Park this Sunday for the first time since pre-season.
The Ladies are looking to also break their previous attendance record, with hopes of a crowd of over 30,000 fans.
The team take on Portsmouth in the FAWNL Cup in their fifth outing at St James Park, however for manager Becky Langley the privilege will never fade.
Becky said: “It will be really special to be back at St James Park, I don’t think that privilege will ever wear off in terms of how important and how excited we all are to be at St James again.
So hopefully we can get a really big crowd and really looking forward to the game.”
The team have so far got past Burnley, Boldmere St. Michaels, Nottingham Forest and Flyde and now they are 90 minutes away from the final.
Each appearance at St James Park brings increasingly bigger crowds to support the Ladies and their importance is never understated.
“Yeah, really important, I think having such a big crowd really gives you that 12th women behind the team so yeah, it’s really inspiring coming out and seeing those stands full and yeah it was just absolutely incredible the first time we played there against Alnwick.
Seeing the crowd there and seeing everybody roaring the girls on and then those Wor Flags banners as well, just absolutely fantastic.”
An undoubtably brilliant campaign so far this year, the team currently sit top of the FA Women’s National League North. Despite large focus on the league, a cup final would be a huge achievement.
Becky added:” We’ve had a successful league campaign but this is a semi-final so it will have that extra edge to it, we need everybody right behind us to get to the final.
So yeah, if we can look to really push on and have that little bit of an edge with the fans, I think that will help us get across the line.”
The match kicks off at 2pm and tickets are currently priced at £5.00 adult and £1.00 concession. These will rise to £8.00/£2.00 on the day.
