Preview: Newcastle Eagles vs Plymouth City Patriots
Darius Defoe is hopeful to return against the Plymouth City Patriots after picking up a muscle injury a few weeks ago.
Defoe exited their game against the Surrey Scorchers before a break for the FIBA World Cup Qualifying.
Marc Steutel’s side will look to go 3-0 against Plymouth and will draw inspiration from their last game against the Patriots.
Defoe put on a strong performance alongside Javion Hamlet and Jermel Kennedy. The three combined for 63 of the Eagles 108 points and 20 of the team’s 39 boards.
The Tyne and Wear side is looking to steady their rocky start and currently sit two points above Surrey – the Scorchers only have one win and that is against the Eagles.
The team will miss Ben Mockford and coach Steutel as Great Britain take on Latvia.
Gary Stronach, interim head coach until Steutel returns, talked about the need for Defoe on and off the court.
The Newcastle Eagles are looking to help Denzel Ubiaro and Justin Everett settle in with the team after their rocky and unpredictable start with the northeast team.
