The stage is set, and anticipation is building as Sunderland Women’s Volleyball team prepares to kick off their 2023/24 BUCS campaign against Durham on October 18.
“Last year was a tough season after being promoted into a higher league. However, with one of our key players getting injured prior to the season starting, we struggled to get a win in games”, – Wills said.
Game Plan and Preparation
A big question on everyone’s mind is whether team have had enough training to prepare for this season. Willis shared some insights into their game plans for the upcoming BUCS season.
“This year has felt really quick before our first BUCS fixture with only having 3 training sessions and not a lot of time to train together as a team. A lot of our players are also new to the sport this season!”
“It has been amazing to see how many girls are wanting to play volleyball this season; numbers at training have been really high which is something we have struggled with in the past.”
“A lot of the girls from the last few years have now finished at the university so we have a brand-new team this year but I’m excited to see where the season takes us!”
Evaluation and Expectations
When asked about her assessment of the team’s preparation, Willis remained:
“We have a completely new team this year, but I hope that we have a positive season with as many wins as possible! It will be great to see so many people involved in the team this year and enjoying playing competitive games!”
Reflecting on the past season, Willis said: “Last year was a tough season after being promoted into a higher league. However, with one of our key players getting injured prior to the season starting, we struggled to get a win in games. Winning the game against York at Clash of the Minster’s was a highlight to the season and a great way to end the season!”
The anticipation for the Sunderland Women’s Team is palpable as they aim to build upon their past successes and chase even greater glory in the upcoming BUCS season.
