The Women’s 2nds and 3rds both fell short in their latest matches at home
Whilst Sunderland Netball firsts were playing away at Hull, the seconds and thirds both played at home. The seconds exited the first round of the cup after losing to Northumbria fifths, and Sheffield fifths took the victory from the thirds with the Yorkshire side on the road.
Sunderland seconds 26 – 55 Northumbria fifths
Northumbria started the first quarter strong attacking-wise. Sunderland were keen on adding pressure despite the opposition’s confident lead. Sunderland was close to closing the gap after Northumbria made several errors. GA, Alexis, made several amazing shots to close the gap.
Going into the second quarter, Sunderland worked more defensively so that the opposition did not advance any further. Despite Sunderland’s work, Northumbria continued to attack.
With substitutions in the third quarter, Sunderland seemed to appear more alive. GS, Victory, made excellent shots to once again close the score line. Sunderland attacked more in this quarter and advanced from Northumbria’s mistakes.
Although having an extensive lead, Northumbria played a more defensive strategy in the last closing minutes. The game ended with Sunderland’s neighbours taking victory and moving forward in the cup title charge.
Sunderland thirds 5 – 94 Sheffield fifths
Sunderland thirds gave a valiant effort against Sheffield at home. Regardless of the score, the team never lost determination and showed improvements from their prior performances.
