Middlesbrough 2-1 Ipswich Town: Boro Victorious in thrilling Promotion clash.

An own-goal from Kipre gave Boro the lead at half time. The score was doubled 10 minutes into the second half with a goal from Morgan Whittaker. Ipswich responded with Dara O’Shea however the hosts held on.
Rob Edwards was looking for a better performance than the defeat at Portsmouth the game prior. He made 3 changes, with Luke Ayling being replaced by Alan Browne, Morris for Burgzorg and Whittaker for Hansen.
It took until the 30th minute for the game to really awaken after a cut back by Leif Davis reached Hirst at the penalty spot only to be stopped b Isiah Jones on the line, with a lot of protestation afterwards about a possible handball.
Just past the half-hour mark a loose pass, on the half way line, from Ipswich allowed for Conway to be slipped in before his shot was saved by Alex Palmer – he was again up quickly to stop Hackney’s deflected effort on the rebound.
Palmer was again tested a minute later with a long throw caused which caused problems at the back, in the scramble, a powerful strike from Browne was palmed away by the keeper.
In the 36th minute it was Ipswich’s turn to attack when a Hirst cross reached the head of Szmodics only to be hooked off the line by Dael Fry. From the clearance Boro countered with numbers leading to Burgzorg making Palmer pull off another great save only for it to rebound to the feat of David Strelec only for him to miss the target from 6 yards out.
Ipswich were awarded a soft penalty in the 41 minute, where the referee indicated that Davis was pulled back by Callum Brittain.
Hirst stepped up to take it, in the 43 minute, only to be thwarted by a remarkable save by Sol Brynn

On the stroke of half time, Burgzorg cleverly rolled his man and drilled the ball across the box, only for it to be turned in by Kipre, after making a mess in his attempt to clear the ball.

10 minutes into the second half Middlesbrough doubled there lead after palmers attempt to clear the cross reaches Whittaker allowing him to tap the ball into the empty net, scoring his first goal for Boro.

Ipswich managed to half the decicit thanks to a well worked set piece which O’Shea brilliantly glanced the ball in from the front post

Boro’s win lifted them to top until Coventry play, while also still keeping themselves in the automatic spaces with others picking up points around them.
Edward’s is pleased with the performance of his team in the early parts of the season. But believes they need to take there chances.
