Michael Van Gerwen beats Gian Van Veen to win the opening night of the Premier League
The three time World Darts Champion and current world number four beat his fellow Dutchman Gian Van Veen 6-4 in the final to secure the first five points of the new season and claim the £10,000 nightly winners prize.
This is ‘Mighty Mikes’ first Premier League night win since Night 11 in Birmingham during the 2024 season.

It was Van Veen’s Premier League debut and he impressed all by knocking out world number one Luke Littler in the quarter final with a 6-4 victory.
He continued this form with another 6-4 win against returning champion Jonny Clayton, who had previously averaged 109.81 when playing newcomer Josh Rock 6-2 in the quarter finals.
Van Gerwen did not have the strongest start in his first round against fan favorite Stephen Bunting, where he had to come back from being 2-0 down.

The former champion managed to pull back and won six consecutive legs in a row, taking him to the semi final where he was set to face Luke Humphries, who despite being world number 2 was in a fierce fight with Gerwin Price, barely beating the Welshman 6-5 with the only break of throw coming from the 11th and final leg.
Night two of the BetMGM Premier League will take place in Antwerp where the two Lukes will face each other yet again which will likely be a strong battle between them.
