Hartlepool midfielder gives thoughts on ‘really disappointing’ defeat to play-off rivals Halifax

Hartlepool United midfielder Jack Hunter assessed a “really disappointing” 1-0 loss to play-off rivals FC Halifax Town last weekend at the Prestige Group Stadium in the Enterprise National League.

“It’s devastating, I didn’t think there was much in the game at all, and to concede at the end and not get a goal ourselves – really disappointing,” Hunter told Hartlepool United club media.

“It wasn’t from a lack of effort, I know that. Everyone gives their all, maybe it was little bits of quality today that we didn’t have. [It’s] just disappointing, it was a big game.”

In the dying moments of the match, the referee waved away appeals that Pools winger Matty Daly was brought down in the Halifax box, instead awarding a free-kick at the edge of the penalty area.

On the incident, the midfielder said: “Matty was in the box on the floor, so it looked like it was in the box.

“I don’t think we can look at that, we need to do more in the game rather than resort to referee decisions – we need to do more ourselves.”

Nicky Featherstone’s side will hope to bounce back next Saturday when they make the 872 mile-round trip to face relegation-threatened Truro City.

“We’ve got to put this right. We’re at the part of the season where draws probably aren’t any good for us – we’ve just got to knuckle down and get as many wins as we can,” Hunter added.

“There’s no moping about, obviously everyone’s gutted that we haven’t won. I think you see that in this league; there’s no easy games. We’ve got to go and win, there’s no excuses.”
