Jobe Bellingham scoops Sky Bet Championship Young Player of the Year award.
Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham has been awarded the prestigious Sky Bet Championship Young Player of the Year award with fellow Black Cats midfielder Chris Rigg winning the Apprentice of the Year award.

Rigg beat out Cardiff City’s Ronan Kpakio and Stoke City’s Souleymane Sidibe to become the award’s latest recipient following last years winner, Archie Gray.
Jobe follows in the footsteps of brother Jude in winning the award, with the Real Madrid man being crowned Sky Bet Championship Young player of the Year in 2020. The pair are the only set of brothers to ever hold the award.
It’s not just Jude Bellingham who has won the award and gone on to play at football’s elite level with Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise also having won the award in recent years.
Jobe also featured in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Season alongside Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year winner Gustavo Hamer.
At only 19 Jobe has already racked up over 100 professional appearances and displays maturity beyond his years. On winning the award Jobe said: “It feels amazing, it’s a testament to everyone at Sunderland. The past two years, not just this year, and I’m really pleased and really grateful.
“We started the season really well as a team, and I got off to a good start too. I think I came back more powerful and really mature in my game. Playing a slightly different role in a much better system.
“We’ve stayed steady and kicked on at times and earned this position.
“There are so many different types of challenges as part of your development, and sometimes you fail, but you’ve got so much time to fix things and learn from your errors.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to the EFL, not just for me but for my brother as well.”
Sunderland Manager Regis Le Bris was nominated for Sky Bet Manager of the Season but was pipped by Burnley’s Scott Parker.
Le Bris, Jobe and Rigg’s season is still far from over. With the play-off campaign looming on the horizon the Sunderland trio will be hoping they can crown impressive individual seasons by helping to guide Sunderland back to the Premier League.
