Match Preview: Coventry City vs Sunderland AFC
Sunderland AFC will look edge closer to the Premier League on Friday night as they travel to Coventry City in a crucial Sky Bet Championship Play-Off semi final.
The Black Cats confirmed their playoff spot a few weeks ago and had to wait until the final game of the season to see who they would face, with five teams all playing for the final promotion spots, it was Coventry City who took fifth place, beating Middlesbrough 2-0.
Sunderland have not won away against Coventry City since 1985 and have never won at the CBS Arena, their last meeting with Coventry ended in a 3-0 defeat back in March.
Opposition Coventry will go into the game confident having won their last match, while the Black Cats go into Friday’s game having lost their last five games.
Following the final game of the season manager Regis Le Bris said:
“This chapter is over, and now we know the challenges ahead. We do not have to overthink or analyse this period, it is done.
“The opponents are strong, and we face a strong challenge, but believe we can win.”
The Second leg will take place at the Stadium of Light, Tuesday 13th of May 8pm. Should Sunderland win, they would play either Sheffield United or Bristol City at Wembley on the 24th of May.
