Luke Littler picks up second nightly win | Premier League Darts Night Seven – Dublin
The Nuke overcame Stephen Bunting and Michael Van Gerwen, before coming from 5-0 down to see off Gerwyn Price in the final.
Here’s everything that happened…
Match 1: Gian van Veen vs Michael van Gerwen
The Green Machine was handed a Bye to the semi-final, as fellow Dutchman van Veen was forced to pull out due to medical reasons.
Van Gerwen received two points and a +1-leg advantage – the first points he’s picked up since pulling out himself of night three.
Result: van Gerwen handed Bye
Match 2: Stephen Bunting vs Luke Littler
Littler looked back to his usual self as he beat Stephen Bunting with the pair both averaging over a ton.
The 19-year-old marched into a 3-0 lead and looked unstoppable.
At 5-1, the outcome was inevitable, but Bunting won leg seven and eight to give himself a fighting chance, before Littler pinned tops for the match.
Result: Bunting (104.10) 3-6 (105.07) Littler
Match 3: Josh Rock vs Gerwyn Price
Price added more misery to Rock, whose wait for a Premier League win goes on with the Welshman whitewashing Rocky in style to book his spot in the semi-final.
The Iceman averaged almost 104 and Rock just couldn’t get going.
The Northern Ireland star only got four chances on the ring and was unable to capitalise when given the opportunity.
After seven weeks, Rock is bottom of the pile with a -29-leg difference and has only won 13 legs with just three legs won against throw.
Result: Rock (84.21) 0-6 (103.66) Price
Match 4: Jonny Clayton vs Luke Humphries
Clayton’s 100% quarter-final streak came to an end as Luke Humphries got revenge on the Ferret.
Cool Hand bounced back from last week’s final defeat and went 3-0 up.
The Ferret fought back and pulled it back to 3-3, but Humphries won the next three legs for a 6-3 win – arranging a semi-final with Price.
Result: Clayton (95.14) 3-6 (103.44) Humphries
Semi-final 1: Michael van Gerwen vs Luke Littler
In a stellar semi-final the world #1 got the better of the world #4 in a last leg decider. After seven legs van Gerwen had a 4-3 lead, and the pair were both sat on the big fish. Littler smashed in both trebles but couldn’t find the bull. The Green Machine then reeled the fish in finding the bullseye for a 5-3 lead.
The Nuke clawed back and sent the tie to a last leg decider with a big fish of his own. Littler popped double five for the match booking his spot in the final.
Result: van Gerwen (98.90) 5-6 (102.45) Littler
Semi-final 2: Gerwyn Price vs Luke Humphries
The Iceman continued his Dublin defence with a superb victory over the world #2.
Price smashed in five maximums and after Humphries opened the scoring, the Welshman picked up the following six legs.
Price gave Humphries just three darts at double and was pretty good on the outer ring himself with a 66.67% checkout rate.
Humphries sits fourth after seven nights in the Premier League and will take on van Gerwen next week.
Result: Price (109.04) 6-1 (101.35) Humphries
Final: Luke Littler vs Gerwyn Price
Price reeled off the opening five legs in style and was within touching distance of a second nightly win.
The Nuke, however, had other ideas and punished the Iceman, who missed five darts for the match.
The Nuke took out double-15 for the match and moves three points from Clayton at the top of the table.
Price sits in third on twelve points and will take on van Veen next week.
Result: Luke littler (95.54) 6-5 (92.61) Gerwyn Price
The Nuke faces a rematch with Bunting next week, as the fixtures are selected based on league position.
Clayton takes on Rock in top vs bottom.
Van Veen returns to action against Price and van Gerwen faces Humphries in the battle of fourth vs fifth.
