Hartlepool midfielder praises ‘response’ after draw against title-chasing Rochdale

Hartlepool United midfielder Jack Hunter praised the “response” of his team after a “really good” performance on Easter Monday, as Pools earned a point in a 0-0 draw against title-chasing Rochdale in the Enterprise National League.

Hunter has been a versatile member of the squad for manager Nicky Featherstone in recent weeks, with the predominantly midfield player slotting in at centre-back against the Dale.

The result made it back-to-back clean sheets for Pools against play-off opposition – following a goalless draw away to Scunthorpe United last time out – as Featherstone’s side continue to bounce back from a staggering 7-0 defeat at Wealdstone last week.

“I thought we were really good,” the 28-year-old told Hartlepool United club media.

“I was happy with the performance – I think everyone gave their all. I’ll always give my all for the club, wherever I’m called upon. So, it doesn’t bother me where I’m playing. I’ve found it comfortable at the back and enjoying it.

“We showed we can come up against any team in the division, which is frustrating in a way because of our consistency. We should’ve done a lot better this season and we know that.

“Especially after last week [against Wealdstone], it’s been tough. There had to be a response, which there has been in the last two games.

“[It’s] obviously frustrating that we haven’t won them – but in terms of going back to basics, which had to be done, I think we’ve done that.

“I think in the last four games now we’ve got to go for it. We’ve got nothing to lose, so hopefully we can win a few games and give the fans something to shout about.”
