Team Sunderland’s week 11 roundup
Team Sunderland returned to BUCS action on Wednesday after the winter break with a successful set of results.
The Men’s Football 1sts made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season, as they built upon their 6-4 win over York 1sts before the winter break with a 10-0 battering of Teesside 1sts at Ford Quarry Hub.
Also, the Men’s 3rds’ impressive run continued, as their 2-0 win over Hull 3rds made it four wins from their last four, whilst in the first “Team Sunderland” derby of 2024, the 2nds convincingly beat the 4ths 9-0.
Meanwhile, for both Men’s Basketball teams, there were two big wins.
The 1sts showed a determined performance at CitySpace against Northumbria 2nds, and earned a narrow 77-70 victory, whilst the 2nds produced a 72-64 point win away to Sheffield Hallam 3rds to make it four wins on the bounce.
For the Netball teams, though, it was a mixed bag of results, with the only win coming at CitySpace, as the 2nds responded to their second defeat of the season before the break, with a 28-23 point victory over Teesside 2nds.
However, there were defeats for the 1sts and 3rds, as the 1sts fell to a 40-61 defeat away to Newcastle 4ths and the 3rds were easily beaten 90-9 by Leeds 7ths in front of a home crowd.
It was one win from two for the badminton teams in action on Wednesday, as the Men’s 1sts built upon their 7-1 win over Northumbria 1sts in week eight, with a 5-3 win away to the same opposition.
Yet, it was disappointment for the relatively inexperienced Women’s 1sts, as they couldn’t overcome Durham 3rds, eventually losing 8-0.
