Leeds Trinity Basketball 1sts Triumphant Over Sunderland University 2nds
Dynamic duo A. Undery and K.Picker help Leeds Trinity 1sts sail to the top of the table with a superb win over Sunderland University’s 2nd team.
In the first quarter Sunderland had gained 7 points from free throws alone, with Dominic Jones scoring a three pointer in the fourth quarter.
In the second quarter Leeds had doubled their advantage from the first quarter despite Sunderland’s counter attacking plays.
Trinity changed their tactics to increase their lead, which led to a Time Out being called by Sunderland’s coach in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter Undery had netted five three pointers, with Picker also netting a three pointer in for Leeds.
This game was both sides’ first game of the season as Sunderland come into this campaign on the back of promotion from the fifth tier.
Sunderland’s counters in the first quarter showed a great threat to Leeds Trinity, however the visitors remained calm and held a 5 point lead going into the second quarter up 9-14.
With Undery and Picker showing their class with layups, and with many three pointers during the second half, it meant that Trinity could then rest on their lead.
The visitors shone in the first half of the game, with Picker being able to pick up the scraps from the Sunderland defense and net multiple rebounds.
Leeds Trinity’s had more than doubled their lead by the end of the second quarter to 23-37, this was due to their possessive playing style and being able to break down the Sunderland defense slowly with direct passes into the paint.
In the second half of the game Leeds had changed from their zone marking to a man marking system. Which made it more difficult for Sunderland and their aggressive playing style which ultimately led to the Sunderland coach J. Seselgis calling a time out at 4:22 in the third quarter.
Trinity were up 41-59 by the end of the third quarter despite some impressive layups from the Sunderland.
Trinity had then taken control of the game in the 4th quarter with Undery scoring five crucial 3 pointers.
With the result at the final buzzer being 50-87, leaving Sunderland University 2nds sitting at the bottom of the Men’s Northern tier 4b table.
