Spennymoor Town U18’s dumped out of FA Vase following disappointing display

Spennymoor Town FC U18s 0-2 AFC Fylde

AFC Fylde progressed to the first round proper of the prestigious FA Youth Cup after a disappointing performance from the young Moor’s.

The two goals in the game came from Mason McKay, Fyldes number 9, in the 67th minute and the 86th minute. A red card was shown in the latter stages of the game to Spennymoor Town’s right back Hari Bondarenko after a second yellow card.

Spennymoor came into this fixture full of confidence and unbeaten before this one. The clubs previous U18s made it through to the first round proper two years ago and the current crop had high hopes they would be able to replicate that.

The game started with AFC Fylde dominating the early minutes, however after a few hard tackles and promising attacks Spennymoor grew into the game. Spennymoor’s Finlay Rose looked very positive on the ball, however no real chances emerged in the first half for either side.

The first goal of the game came from McKay after a lovely counter attack from Fylde, they attacked down the right hand side of the Moor’s defence and after a brilliant drilled cross McKay stabbed home his first of the game.

Spennymoor kept going, however they were again caught on the break late on in the game. McKay scored a wonderful left footed goal from outside the box which flew past Moors’s Goalkeeper, James Barron, into the top corner.

Finlay Rose said after the match “I thought it was an even contest, but football is a game of moments and they took their moments in the game and that is ultimately why they have progressed into the next round.”

Spennymoor Town’s first team won last night, beating Farsley Celtic 3-0 in the National League North aiding their pursuit for a play-off spot in the sixth tier.
