Heaton Stannington set six point gap to relegation zone in win over Bishop Auckland

Heaton Stannington 2-0 Bishop Auckland

Leighton Hooper’s 38th-minute goal, followed by Alfie Marriott’s in the 45th minute, earned Heaton Stannington another pivotal three points.

The Stan came into this match following an away victory at Grimsby Borough. Meanwhile, Bishop Auckland looked for a first win in six games.

Three minutes into the match, Marriott looked for an early lead from a first-time volley which went narrowly over.

Seven minutes later, the home side came close again when Richard Slaughter unleashed a strike from 25 yards but struck the post. Stan’s Konner Lamb tried to tap it in at the back post, however the Auckland defence cleared it away,

Stan had much better possession in the first half, as chances kept coming as a through pass went through to Lamb, who dragged the shot wide.

Eventually a goal came for the home side, Daniel Stephenson crossed the ball as Daniel Capwell knocked it on as Hopper finished it off at the back post.

Just before half-time, a corner came for the Stan as Stephenson delivered a ball into the box, which was headed in by Marriott.

Auckland recorded their first shot of the game in the second half, Gary Martin headed towards goal for an easy Lewis Brass catch.

A quiet end to the second half as four minutes of injury time were added but Brass easily caught everything in the air, as Auckland failed to register any more chances.

A vital six points for the Stan as their next fixture is away to fourth place Newton Aycliffe.
