Jenson Seelt dealt fresh injury blow ahead of Millwall clash

Regis Le Bris has confirmed that defender Jenson Seelt will miss Saturday’s game against Millwall after suffering an injury set-back.

The Dutchman returned to first team action at Coventry just before the international break for the first time since injuring his knee against Southampton a year ago.

The news leaves Sunderland struggling in defence with Dan Ballard, Dennis Cirkin and Leo Hjelde also sidelined for the game. However right back Trai Hume has been passed fit to play after returning to the club early from international duty with Northern Ireland with a hip problem.

Speaking about Seelt ahead of his side’s game on Saturday Le Bris said: ““He doesn’t feel good with his knee, with different small problems, so I think we will have to wait maybe one or two weeks to be very clear and fresh, and I don’t know if it will be at 100 per cent at the end of the season, we’ll see.”

Seelt’s set-back could mean one of Joe Anderson, who has not featured in the Championship this campaign, or academy graduate Oli Bainbridge are given an opportunity to start on Saturday. Bainbridge has never played for Sunderland’s first team but the left back did spend the first half of this season on loan at Kilmarnock, where he made nine appearances in all competitions.
