Newcastle City Centre is set to be a sea of black and white, as fans gather this weekend to celebrate The Magpies’ first trophy in 70 years.

Following Newcastle’s historic Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool two weekends ago, a bus parade accompanied by a party on the Town Moor has been set up by the club to show off the silverware that fans have craved for decades.

On Saturday, United fans who may never have thought that this day would come will all have the chance to release their emotions and celebrate in style.

However, some fans already got the party started and had their first chance to see the trophy this past weekend, in the women’s Tyne-Wear Derby which saw a record-breaking attendance for a Women’s Championship Game of 38,502.

SportsByte approached supporters following the derby this past Sunday and here’s what one United fan had to say:

“It was amazing, it was great to be here, the time, the year I’m here and the year they get the trophy, 70 years. It’s a big event for the city and it’s amazing to see everyone.”

For many of those fans, it’s somewhat a historical moment as well as being a release of emotion.

Season ticket holder, Luke De Redder said: “I’ve spent thousands going away when we weren’t good, losing all the time and I was at Villa when they sent us down, and my dads done a lot more over the years.

“It’s a massive relief (to win a trophy), I’ve never seen anything like it when Dan Burn Scored.”

A party city that’s not seen a trophy since the late 60s, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are about to set off the biggest celebration the Toon has ever seen.
