Miami GP Preview: Will McLaren maintain their hot streak of wins?
Formula 1 returns to screens this weekend as it makes its first of three trips to the United States in 2025 for the Miami Grand Prix.
It also marks the return of the sprint races, as the Miami GP was selected as one of the six venues to host this year’s sprint weekends.
Oscar Piastri has taken the lead of the Drivers’ Championship for the first time after victory in Saudi Arabia last time out.
However, only by 10 points from his teammate is Lando Norris who will be returning to the track where he took his first ever win.
The Brit will be looking to repeat this as he looks to stay in reaching distance of his very much in-form teammate, who has now won three out of the five opening races.
Max Verstappen will be hot on their heels too, narrowly missing out on a win himself in Saudi Arabia. He picked up a five second penalty after an incident between him and Piastri into the first corner of the first lap.
Ferrari will be looking to build on the momentum of Charles Leclerc’s podium finish in Saudi Arabia, which is also Ferrari’s first Sunday podium of the season.
The Miami International Autodrome
The Miami Grand Prix joined the Formula 1 calendar in 2022.
The track itself goes around the Hard Rock Stadium, which is home to NFL side the Miami Dolphins.
Just like the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the Miami GP track is also a street circuit, with a high-speed first sector, tight corners and a long back straight.
Turns 14 and 15 provide the most challenge for the drivers, as they try to navigate themselves through an awkward chicane with punishing sausage kerbs.
The Forecast
The Friday and Saturday sessions look set to be completely uninterrupted by any rain, with temperatures across the first two days in the high 20s.
However, the current weather forecast shows that Sunday’s race could be interrupted with thundery showers.
The Miami Grand Prix has yet to have any sessions affected by rain, since its introduction three years ago, but it looks like that could all change for the main race.
