Miami GP Review: Oscar Piastri wins from fourth to extend championship lead as Lando Norris overcomes first-lap drama to seal McLaren one-two
Piastri extends his world championship lead from teammate Norris, with a dominant performance at the Miami Grand Prix.
The Aussie drove a superb race, starting from fourth on the grid, after dodging the first-lap drama and eventually passing the pole-sitter Max Verstappen.

Norris was left to pick up the pieces after losing four positions at the start of the race following an altercation with Verstappen but still managed to weave his way through the pack and finish second.
The back end of the race was teeing up for an exciting finish, as Norris was chomping away at Piastri’s lead, and at times looked like he was going to be within touching distance before the end of the race.
However, Piastri’s rapid pace and early lead was enough to keep him ahead of his teammate as the Aussie finished four seconds in front.
His lead at the top of the standings has now extended to 16 points after narrowly missing out on the Sprint Race win, due to a late safety car which helped his teammate.
George Russell finished third for Mercedes after benefitting from a Virtual Safety Car to overtake Verstappen.
Verstappen has now fallen 32 points behind Piastri in the World Championship, making it look less likely that the Red Bull driver will secure his fifth Drivers’ Championship this season.
Alex Albon finished fifth to match Williams’ best finish of the season after beating Kimi Antonelli and finishing ahead of both Ferraris.
Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will both leave the Miami GP with a lot of frustration about the pace of the team so far.
Both drivers were blatantly unhappy over team radio during the race, both being asked at one point to let their teammate through, which led to a bit of a dispute between Hamilton and his race engineer.
Carlos Sainz made a late dive into the last corner to try and claim eighth from Hamilton but couldn’t quite make it stick and settled for ninth.
The Red Bull of Yuki Tsunoda claimed the last point-scoring position after overcoming a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
The Japanese driver was under a lot of pressure towards the end by his former teammate Isack Hadjar but managed to finish ahead by little more than a tenth of a second.
