The Teessider’s drop more points in the race for automatics
Middlesbrough 1 – 1 Leicester City
Boro dropped crucial points in the EFL Championship last night against relegation threatened Leicester.
First half goals from Caleb Okali and Riley McGree saw the points shared at the Riverside. Following dropped points against relegation threatened Oxford, Boro went into the game in need of three points to keep pressure on leage leaders, Coventry.
The first chance of the game was from Matt Targett’s freekick, his strike beat the wall, but Asmir Begovic was down quickly to save it.
Leicester’s first chance, was also from a free-kick, a whipped cross from Divine Mukasa was met the head of Okoli, unmarked – who headed it past Sol Brynn to give the visitors the lead.
Boro struggled to get many opportunities on the City goal, however just after the half hour mark, Tommy Conway’s driven effort went narrowly past the post.
Hellberg’s side levelled the game in added time of the first half, through McGree’s effort, his splitting pass from Hayden Hackney found Conway on the left flank – whose cut back found McGree in the box who slotted past Begovic in goal.
With only a minute played Leicester almost retook the lead, a clearance from Oliver Skipp was poorly dealt by Luke Ayling, his header went straight up in the air and into the path of Patson Daka – who headed wide.
Boro almost took the lead when Callum Brittain’s cross was saved by Begovic who was up quickly to deny McGree his second on the rebound, earning the Foxes a crucial point as they attempt to survive relegation.
