Marske United 2-4 Newcastle Benfield: Top performance gives new Benfield bosses first win
Marske United 2-4 Newcastle Benfield
Newcastle Benfield won big away to Marske United in Andrew Ferguson’s first game at the helm at the club.
Benfield came flying out of the blocks scoring in the first minute of Fergie’s managerial reign via Jakub Zych.
Benfield doubled their lead through Kyle Fryatt around ten minutes later. The further pressure was awarded as Benfield scored their third of the half via Zych again, making it three goals in two games for Benfield’s new forward.
On the stroke of half time Marske got a goal back. Easy finish for Marske’s striker, Carmichael, who found himself unmarked 6-yards out for an easy finish. Orchestrated by Joshua Teixeira, great play from the full back down the left flank, fizzing the ball across the goalmouth for Ryan Smith to capitalise, making it four for The Lions.
Despite McCorrie Carmichael cutting the deficit, Benfield added a fourth on the 69th minute with Ryan Smith bagging next. Marske United got a consolation minutes before the end with Evan Mcbride firing home, however it wasn’t enough to swing the tide of the game back in the hosts’ favour.
Benfield have had an indifferent start to the season, and Ferguson would have been hoping pre-match to get off to a winning start.
The game started with early pressure from the visitors which resulted in Jakub Zych reacting first to a goal line clearance from a Marske United defender to put The Lions ahead, continuing his fine start in a Benfield shirt.
Benfield felt their pressure was too much for Marske to handle and next Noah Millington drove towards the near post to deliver, Fryatt beat the opposing defenders to the ball and used the pace of the delivery to angle the ball into the back of Marske’s net, 2-0.
One touch football from Glen Hargreaves and Andre Bennet unlocked the Marske midfield yet again, Zych picked up the ball on the edge of the area and dispatched it into the bottom-left corner, 3-0.
Just before the break Marske United did find a breakthrough with Carmichael breaking down the visitor’s defence.
The second half however, was more of the same. The fourth goal was orchestrated by Joshua Teixeira, he showed great play from down the left flank, fizzing the ball across the goalmouth for Smith to capitalise, making it four for The Lions.
Marske grabbed a consolation in the dying embers of the game, a deflected effort managed to scramble its way into the back of Benfield’s goal to make it 4-2.
As much as Benfield were electric on the attacking end, it must be mentioned how solid the back line was, making crucial interventions. Debutant Lennon Trinder making some excellent saves to keep Benfield in the lead also, overall, a great performance from Benfield in Ferguson’s first game.
