Match Report: Boston United 3-2 Newcastle United U21s

A dramatic turnaround saw Boston Utd come out 3-2 winners against the young magpies in the National League Cup.

Newcastle lead at half-time through a brace from striker Ben Parkinson. However, two late goals for the National League side was enough to take all three points.

Magpies boss Diarmuid O’Carroll started two familiar names in midfield – Lewis Miley and forgotten man Isaac Hayden.

The match began in spectacular fashion as the pilgrims midfielder Sam Osborne whipped the ball into the far right hand corner from outside the box after three minutes.

An effort from outside the box from Alfie Harrison was deflected off Ben Parkinson into the bottom corner to make it 1-1 after 11 minutes.

It was Boston Utd who were having the better chances in the first half, however, the young Magpies broke away down the right hand side through Darren Palmer who crossed the ball into Ben Parkinson and he made it 2-1 to Newcastle just before half-time.

Brilliant work down the left hand side from Frankie Maguire as he beat his man and delivered a ball into the box, Newcastle had multiple opportunities to clear the ball but couldn’t, and it was finally finished by Pemi Aderoju to make it 2-2 after 76 minutes.

The Pilgrims all but secured the three points in the 81st minute through a scrappy back post goal from Frankie Maguire to make it 3-2.
