Sunderland AFC 1-1 Lincoln City
Sunderland’s run of four league wins in a row came to an end as they drew 1-1 with Lincoln City at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats took the lead in the 40th minute after Callum McFadzean headed home his first league goal of the season.
Lincoln equalised in the 63rd minute through Callum Morton.
Lee Johnson made two changes to the side that beat Accrington, with Grant Leadbitter and McFadzean replacing Jake Vokins and Jack Diamond.
The Black Cats had the first chance of the game in the 10th minute as the ball fell to Leadbitter, who struck a long-distance shot, but Alex Palmer made a strong stop.
Sunderland felt that they should have had a penalty in the 29th minute, when Charlie Wyke was seemingly held by Adam Jackson, but nothing was given.
The home side eventually took the lead in the 40th minute as Max Power whipped an early cross to the back post, and McFadzean beat his man and headed past Palmer.
Lincoln improved in the second half, managing to find an equaliser minute after Morton held off Luke O’Nien and fired a shot past Lee Burge.
The Imps continued to threaten and in the 70th minute, a cross was met by Cohen Bramall, but Burge reacted well to make a good save.
Michael Appleton’s side could have grabbed the winner late on through Morgan Rogers, but Burge made another fantastic save to keep Sunderland in the game, a theme throughout much of the second half.
Draws in other games meant the league table stayed virtually the same at the top. Sunderland’s next game comes against Bristol Rovers, who recently appointed Joey Barton as manager.
