Monkwearmouth’s Year 8B squad went joint-top of the Sunderland Schools League on Wednesday following an “excellent” 6-3 away win against Sandhill View.

Frankie Johnston scored a brace, while Regan Carter, Charlie Carter, Daniel O’Brien and Noel Bosher were also among the goalscorers.

Reece Thirlwell picked up the player of the match award.

Academy coach, Steve Jackson, told SportsByte just how impressed he was given the off-putting weather: “Our year 8B squad came away with a 6-3 victory in a high scoring game at Sandhill View.

“In tricky conditions the lads played some excellent attacking football, scoring some brilliant team goals.

“On a slippery pitch, the team still got the ball down to play some lovely combination play and in the second half got their rewards with four excellent team goals.

“This puts the Year 8Bs joint top of the table with nine points from four games.”
