Whitley Warriors 1-3 Solihull Barons

The Whitley Warriors fell to another home defeat in the NIHL North Division One, losing 3-1 to the Solihull Barons.

Daniel Mulcahy opened the scoring for the Barons 9 minutes into the match before Bailey Challans doubled his side’s lead 5 minutes from the end of the second period.

Seven minutes into the third period, Adam Wood struck back for Whitley but the Barons responded quickly through Mulcahy who scores his second goal of the match just seconds later.

The Warriors will be disappointed by their performance, having only managed to score once despite the Barons giving away seven power plays.

Halfway through the first period, Whitley goaltender Joshua Crane fell on his stomach as he blocked a shot onto the boards behind the goal. The puck deflected to the other side of the goal where Mulcahy was able to fire home with Crane still on his stomach and the goal was given despite Whitley’s appeals for a foul on France.

The Warriors nearly levelled the score in the second period, hitting the post twice.

16 minutes into the second period however, another deflection saw the puck fall to Barons attacker Bailey Challans who, other than Crane, was the only player in the Warriors zone. Challans promptly beat Crane one-on-one to give Solihull a two goal advantage.

Early in the third period and with the Barons down to just three outfield players through suspension, Whitley finally got themselves back into the game through Wood.

Despite being men down Solihull quickly restored their two goal advantage through Mulchay just seconds after Whitley had reduced the deficit.
