Eddie Howe’s team ended a run of three straight home league losses by overcoming the hardship of Jacob Ramsey’s dubious first-half sending off, which was given following an apparent dive under a challenge from Senne Lammens.
After earning a penalty kick from Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Gordon put Newcastle ahead in a frantic first-half stoppage-time that commenced with Ramsey’s second yellow.
However, United swiftly equalised as the captain made amends by setting up Casemiro to score past Aaron Ramsdale.
Newcastle needed a few outstanding saves from Ramsdale, who was selected ahead of Nick Pope, to stay in the game.
And, in second-half injury-time, Osula, who hasn’t featured much this season, became the first substitute to score a 90th-minute winner against Manchester United in the Premier League.
Despite their first setback under Carrick, who has won six of his first seven games, Manchester United remain in third place following back-to-back losses to rivals for Champions League qualifying Aston Villa, who were crushed 4-1 by Chelsea.
Newcastle on the other hand, currently sit in 12th.
