Whitley Warriors 3 – 0 Aberdeen Lynxes: Warriors now lead the SNL

Whitley Warriors remained in control for the full game thanks to a strong Ethan Dunn performance in the Whitley Bay ice hockey rink.

Ben Richards struck first before two points from Cameron Ware ensured a dominant display at the bay.

Although the Lynxes won the puck in the initial face off, Warriors took back control and Richards’ shot past Aberdeen’s net minder scored the Warriors first point of the game in the first minute. Richards was assisted by Ware and Liam Smedley.

The Warriors continued to build moment in the first period, with Richards and Ware making shots on target and the Lynxes unable to hold possession.

Ethan Dunn had his first chance after a great drive forward, but as he lined up to take the shot, a Lynx man took him down – leaving Warriors stuck on 1-0 till the end of the period and the Lynxes down to 4 men for 2 minutes.

The second period started the same, with the Lynxes initially winning the puck but not able to keep in under their control with both Ethan Reid and Phil Edgar able to make attempts on goal.

Warriors had plenty of opportunities to make it two, with their pressure eventually proving fruitful with Ware scoring the second goal of the game for the Warriors, aided by Ollie Jardine and George Cowey – two of the youngest players on the team.

Warriors scored their third goal of the game in the 46th minute of play, scored by Ware again and assisted by Richards and Ross Douglass.

During the last 5 minutes of play a fight broke out between a Lynx and Douglass leading to Douglass receiving a two minute penalty for roughing and the Lynx receiving a five minute penalty and a game ban for a jab to the head.

The game ended Warriors 3 – 0 Lynxes, with the Warriors holding possession for the majority of the game.

The man of the match for the Whitley Warriors was Cameron Ware, who scored 2 of their goals against the Lynxes and assisted Richards with his goal.

Next weekend they will be playing Paisley Pirates twice, away on Saturday for a league match and at home on Sunday for the quarter final of the Scottish Cup. The Warriors last faced the Pirates on the 12 October where they won 5 – 2 so they should feel confident for the weekend.
