It was a fast and lively start from both sides, with Blackburn scoring first within three minutes as Charlie Boggan poked a low-ball cross past Joe Cowan.
Sunderland struck back through some great link-up play, which had a lovely threaded through ball into Whittaker who equalised.
In the 20th minute, Jaydon Jones gave Sunderland the lead through Milan Aleksić’s pinpoint cross.
Five minutes later, another goal came for Rovers through a defensive scramble, which was tapped in by Brandon Powell.
The Black Cats retook the lead through Harrison Jones, who beat the covering Blackburn defender with his shot at goal to make it 3-2.
A seventh goal of the season for Harrison Jones 🙌

In the second half, Sunderland performed solidly and kept applying pressure at the Blackburn goal.
The game was wrapped up with a fizzed cross from substitute Tom Proctor, which was converted by Whittaker for his brace.
Sunderland Under-21s will face Burnley Under-21s in the final, with a date and venue yet to be decided.
