The race for Europe – which Premier League team will play in a international competition next year
There are still two match days to play in the Premier League and there are still various possibilities as to who can qualify for which international competition.
Fourth-placed Aston Villa currently have a seven-point lead over fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. However, they still have a catch-up game to play and could still overtake Aston Villa. To do so, however, Tottenham would have to win all three games and Aston Villa would have to win none.
However, the London team must also look down. Only four points behind them are Newcastle United, who still have hopes of reaching the Europa League. Chelsea and Manchester United are just six points off fifth place, with all four clubs having three games left to play.
Following Liverpool’s victory in the EFL Cup, sixth in the league will qualify for the Europa Conference League.
Should Manchester City win the FA Cup, sixth place would qualify for the Europa League and seventh place for the Europa Conference League.
The same applies if Manchester United win the FA Cup and finish the season in fifth or sixth place.
However, if Manchester United wins the FA Cup and finish the season in seventh place or higher, sixth place will play in the Europa Conference League.
