Match Report: Sunderland U21’s 5-2 Manchester United U21’s

Sunderland U21s 5-2 Manchester United U21s

Trey Ogunsuyi bagged a brace in a seven-goal thriller against Manchester United U21s seeing the Black Cats secure their sixth win in a row.

Jack Fletcher and Gabriele Biancheri’s first-half goals for United weren’t enough to stop a rampant Sunderland side, with Adil Aouchiche, a Habeeb Ogunneye own-goal and a brace for Ogunsuyi putting Sunderland 4-2 up at the break after a frantic first-half.

The only goal of the second-half came through Timur Tutierov for the home side, rounding off a very impressive 5-2 victory for Sunderland.

Talisman Ogunsuyi returned to the side following his suspension he picked up in the 2-0 win over Wolves.

Sunderland started brightly netting inside three minutes from a set piece, which landed at the feet of Aouchiche on the edge of the area whose shot nestled into the bottom corner past Hubert Graczyk.

A mix up at the back post allowed United to equalise moments later with Fletcher beating Dan Cameron to level after eight minutes.

Sunderland struck again on 23 minutes after Tutierov’s cross took a deflection off Ogunneye who turned it past his goalkeeper with Ogunsuyi right down his neck putting pressure on him, restoring Sunderland’s lead.

Ogunsuyi netted his first of the afternoon, with a smart first time finish, after getting on the end of a great cross from Jewison Bennette.

Again, minutes later United pulled one back, Biancheri with a close range finish past Cameron.

Sunderland though, responded quickly once again, when Ogunsuyi picked up the ball and drove at the United defence before cutting inside onto his left foot and finishing, a great solo goal from the Belgian U19 international.

The second half started with the same pace the first ended with, with Tutierov adding a 5th. Ogunsuyi turned provider this time slipping Tutierov in, who still had a lot to do. He jinked inside onto his right foot and smashed home into the top corner.

Manchester United searched for a root back into the game, and another big chance fell to Fletcher again, denied by a good block off the line from Tom Lavery.

Sunderland are up to 9th place in the PL2 and have a trip to Boston United in the National League cup next.
